Huntelaar sidelined by injury

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has undergone an examination on the injury he sustained in the match at Wolfsburg. Results of the tests conducted by the Schalke medical department on Sunday show a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The injury rules the Dutch striker out of this Wednesday's Champions League play-off first leg against PAOK and a number of matches after that. Club doctors expect him to be sidelined for several weeks.

Huntelaar was involved in a collision with Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio just before half-time and subsequently reported a stabbing pain in his knee, which forced head coach Jens Keller to replace him during the break.
