Schalke complete Aogo switch

The Royal Blues have added another left-sided player to their squad with the signing of Dennis Aogo on loan from Hamburg SV. Aogo, who has made 12 senior appearances for Germany, has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of this season.

"Dennis is a player who is sure to be a useful addition thanks to his versatility. He gives us more options in the squad," said a delighted director of sport Horst Heldt after the deal went through.

"Schalke are a big footballing challenge, not least because of the matches in the Champions League. I'll do all I can to help the team," said Aogo on signing the contract. The 26-year-old utility player will wear the No15 shirt for the Royal Blues.

Aogo was born on 14 January 1987 in Karlsruhe. He began his career at Bulach SC in 1993 and then had spells at Karlsruhe SC (1994-2000), Waldhof Mannheim (2000-2002), SC Freiburg (2002-2008) and Hamburg SV (2008-2013).

To date Aogo has made 146 Bundesliga appearances and scored three goals for HSV (131/2) and SC Freiburg (15/1). He has also played 13 times (3 goals) in the DFB Cup and made 26 European appearances in a HSV shirt.

In his time at Hamburg Aogo made 12 senior appearances for Germany. He was a member of the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and featured in the 3-2 win over Uruguay in the match for third place. In 2009 he won the European Under-21 Championship with Germany in Sweden.
