The Royal Blues have based their new tunnel on a mine shaft, to act as a symbol of the clubs’ roots as a “working man’s club”. A photo of the new tunnel, that was posted on FC Schalke 04’s Twitter page, has quickly circulated around the internet. The picture has grabbed the attention of prestigious media channels, including The Guardian from the UK and Mediaset from Italy.
The tunnel also impressed the visitors from Munich. Before the match, Bayern posted a photo on Twitter with the caption, “‘The lions’ den’ is waiting for FCB: Schalke’s new tunnel in the stadium…”
Alexander Jobst, head of marketing, is pleased with the reaction, “We’re happy that our new tunnel has been received with such positive feedback.” At the same time, Jobst assured that the tunnel will retain its look beyond this season.
