“We are happy about the transfer. Alessandro is a flexible midfielder with a lot of promise as he is still only 21 years old. He fits into our setup well,” said Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt.
Schöpf's journey began in Austria at SV Längenfeld (1999-2007) and BNZ Tirol (2007-2009) before moving to the FC Bayern Munich youth academy. In November 2013, he signed a contract lasting until 2016 with the Munich side, but only managed to play in the second team in his time at the club.
After five years with the German record champions, for whose U23s, Schöpf scored 22 goals in 63 Regional League games - he moved to 1.FC Nuremberg at the start of the 2014/15 season. Here, he made a total of 51 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga, scoring eight goals, and giving ten assists. For the Austria U21s, the midfield talent has 19 caps so far and has scored eight goals.
