Schalke agree deal for Holger Badstuber

FC Schalke 04 can confirm their second new addition of the January transfer window: a deal has been agreed for Holger Badstuber to join the club on loan from FC Bayern Munich. The deal will run until 30th June 2017.

Having secured a move to VfB Stuttgart’s youth team from TSV Rot an der Rot 1890, Badstuber moved to FC Bayern Munich's youth setup in 2002. The 1.90m-standing defender then made his debut in the 2007/08 season for German champions’ second team, joining the official first team squad in 2009.

Badstuber made his professional debut on 8th August 2009 against TSG Hoffenheim, and has since followed that with a further 118 Bundesliga appearances, scoring once. The centre back featured 37 times (one goal) in the Champions League, and has 17 DFB Cup appearances to his name. The left-footer has 31 caps for Germany, with his only goal coming against Azerbaijan.

The Germany-capped defender will be a part of Markus Weinzierl's side for the second half of the season. The deal is complete subject to medical tests, which the 27-year old will complete upon his arrival in Gelsenkirchen in due course.
