Markus Weinzierl: An enjoyable performance

Following Schalke's 2-0 Bundesliga win over Hertha BSC at the VELTINS-Arena, the two sides' respective head coaches Markus Weinzierl and Pal Dardai spoke to to give their views on the game.

Markus Weinzierl:

I am very pleased. We played very well and were the better side over the 90 minutes. We got the goals at the right times. We made good chances before we took the lead - for example when Leon Goretzka hit the post and the one-on-one that was saved. I am glad that Leon got the goal he deserved in the second half, and at what a good goal it was. We did well after the second goal, playing with spirit and patience.

Looking back, it was a very good week for us. The results have gone our way, yes, but also the way we have played. After the loss against Eintracht Frankfurt we worked very hard to fix what was going wrong. We have done that. I had fun watching the team today, and that is a big compliment to the side.

Pal Dardai:

Congratulations to Schalke on a well-earned victory. We did not get into the game well. In the second half we changed a few things, but not enough to turn things in our favour. Perhaps we were struggling with tiredness. Schalke had the better of us and we could not find a way past them, though we did have our opportunities - Salomon Kalou had the first big chance of the game. But the simple truth is that our opponents were better, and we have to accept that. It is important for us to score goals again in the next few weeks. I am sure that with a bit of luck, we will come back swiftly.
