Guido Burgstaller: We can create a small miracle

Winter signing Guido Burgstaller scored against PAOK and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the last two rounds of this year’s Europa League. The Austrian is hoping to score in three knock-out rounds in a row when the Royal Blues meet Ajax for the second-leg of their quarterfinal tie tonight. “We all have a dream and we don’t want this European journey to end yet,” said the striker.

The deficit from the first-leg stands at 0-2, but Burgstaller said, “I believe that we can create a small miracle and get through. We need to score three goals in the VELTINS Arena which we managed in our games there against Augsburg and Wolfsburg.” However, the 27-year-old knows that this won’t be easy: “We have our fans behind us and in our own stadium, anything is possible.”

Burgstaller demands that he and his teammates give their absolute all. “The energy needs to be transmitted from us to the fans,” explained the attacker. “We’re responsible for putting in a strong performance and giving absolutely everything:” He can understand the unhappiness amongst the fans in the light of recent performances. “We weren’t good in the duels in Amsterdam and In Darmstadt we didn’t concentrate in front of goal. Neither of those things is allowed to happen,” explained the Austrian international.
