Breel Embolo books place at 2018 World Cup

After Leon Goretzka, Matija Nastasic and Amine Harit had already confirmed their place in next year’s World Cup, Breel Embolo did the same last night with Switzerland. Despite the fact that the second leg of their playoff against Northern Ireland ended in a 0-0 draw, it was enough to secure qualification on the basis of their 1-0 win in Belfast.

Embolo was brought into the game in the 86th minute in Basel. The forward was the most dangerous man on the pitch in the closing stages, proving to be a constant threat in front of the Northern Irish goal. He couldn’t quite find a winner by the end of things, but that didn’t stop the celebrations from erupting when the final whistle blew.
