An all round successful 35th birthday

As Naldo celebrated in front of the fans following the 3-1 home win against VfB Stuttgart in front of the TV cameras, you could see his goosebumps. “It was simply a brilliant day for me. It couldn’t have gone better”, said the Brazilian who turned 35 on the day of the game.

Following the final whistle, Naldo received a serenade from the Schalke faithful. Naldo added, “It was crazy!” His team mates celebrated with the goalscorer after the game finished.

The fact that it happened on my birthday of all days made it even better.

For Naldo, it was his first goal in the VELTINS Arena. “I scored against Athletic Bilbao last year but it was only a friendly”, recollected Naldo and added: “The fact that it happened on my birthday of all days made it even better.” The defender wasn’t far from scoring again as his free-kick towards the game’s end rattled the post. Naldo commented: “It was a shame that it just couldn’t quite sneak inside the post.”

Despite all the jubilation at the final whistle about getting the three points, Naldo also knew the first 45 minutes were not up to scratch. “Before the break, we were too passive after taking the lead. The trainer gave us a talking to at half-time”, said Naldo. “We showed in the second half that we are a good team but we need to demonstrate that for 90 minutes every game.”

In the evening after the game, Naldo did not have a big celebration for his birthday. “My children had school in the morning and I had training”, Naldo let us know. Just like the rest of the team, Naldo wants to work hard in the next few days to get more points on the board this weekend against Werder Bremen. “With six points already, we’ve got off to a solid start. It’s important that we up the ante in Bremen”, stated the Brazilian.
